G-Town Wines Providing Blended malt, also known as vatted malt or pure malt, is a type of whisky that is made by blending together two or more single malt whiskies from different distilleries. Unlike blended whisky, which is made by blending together single malt and grain whiskies, blended malt is made solely from single malt whiskies.
Blended malt whiskies are often created with the intention of achieving a specific flavor profile or to create a unique blend that is not possible with a single malt whisky. The individual single malt whiskies used in the blend are carefully selected to complement each other and create a balanced and complex flavor.
To be labeled as a blended malt, the whisky must be made entirely from malted barley and distilled in pot stills. It must also be bottled at a minimum strength of 40% ABV and may not contain any additives other than water and caramel coloring.
Blended malt whiskies can vary widely in flavor and aroma depending on the specific whiskies used in the blend and the proportion in which they are blended. Some of the most popular blended malt whiskies include Johnnie Walker Green Label, Monkey Shoulder, and Compass Box Peat Monster.
